Traveling to and from the workplace would always relieve our stress. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are carrying out our duties from our home. A survey conducted by Hunts office shows that a majority of people, that is 69%,  miss their regular commute. A quarter of workers miss ‘me time’ that they used to spend while commuting. About 19% of workers miss buying their breakfast while 22% miss chatting.

17% of people, who used to spend that time reading miss this activity while working from their homes. 33% of people observed an increase in working hours, and 19% of them felt less motivated. Apart from 47% of people who’ve experienced back pain, the mental health of 42% of workers has also been affected as they feel less motivated to get out of bed in the morning.

Forming your own fake commute habits can help you to draw some benefits of commuting without actually going to your workplace from your home! Here are some of the best ways to form your own ‘fake commute’ habits.

Schedule Your Regular Sleep:

We used to have a sleep schedule before the pandemic. But at present, our sleeping schedule might have been disturbed. An irregular sleeping schedule can give rise to numerous physical as well as mental health issues. You need not follow the sleeping schedule as it was before the pandemic. You may develop a new one but you shall stick to that schedule. Have enough time before going to sleep and after waking up in the morning. Perform all your basic activities in this marginal time. This is the first step to form your own ‘fake commute’ habits!

Imitate Commute Timings:

If you used to spend a certain period of time traveling to the office, then spend the same time going out for a walk. People also prefer to drive a round trip and come back home to fake commute. If you used to spend your commute time in several activities like reading, having breakfast, or chatting, then perform the same activities in that period of time before starting the office work.

Dress-up!

Attending the meetings and working in informal clothes can make you feel dull and boring. You must put on your office uniform or formal clothes to fake commute. Doing this will make your routine feel more regular. Studies have proven that wearing formal clothes even while working from home can improve your performance and can enhance your creativity.

Be Punctual:

There might have been a timing by which you used to reach your office. Follow the same office timings at your home. You might feel comfortable being on your bed and getting up late. But this practice makes a person lazy and less productive. Therefore, be on your work desk at the same time by which you used to reach your office.

You must also spend an extra amount of time and effort in maintaining and cleaning your workspace. Try to keep it the same as it used to be in your office.

Travel Back To Home:

After office hours, try going for a walk or a drive wearing similar formal clothes. Spend the same time outdoors as you used to do while returning to your home from the office. After fake commuting of traveling back to the home, put on your pajamas and perform the activities that are not related to the work! Spend time with your loved ones and share the incidents that happened during the day at the office.

Practicing ‘fake commute’ has personally helped me a lot! I was bedridden for months during the initial months of the pandemic. Negative thoughts conquered my mind and I start being unfit due to a lack of physical activities. However, after trying ‘fake commute’, my life has been quite sorted. I have improved a lot physically as well as mentally! Following a regular sleep schedule helps me being organized and energetic throughout the day.
